The pressure plate keeps constant pressure on the clutch disc when engaged, and releases the clutch disc when the clutch pedal is pressed. A damaged or worn-out pressure plate can cause the clutch to remain engaged, even when the clutch pedal is pressed, making it difficult or impossible to get into gear. It is recommended to replace the pressure plate any time you replace your clutch.
