About these Timing Chain Components

The IWIS 50042439 is part of your engine's timing chain system, which keeps the camshafts turning in step with the crankshaft. The chain runs on guides and is kept tight by a tensioner; when any of these wear, the timing can drift or the chain can jump.

Frequently asked questions

What are the signs of a worn timing chain?

A rattle from the front of the engine, especially on a cold start, a check-engine light with camshaft or crankshaft correlation codes, rough running, or reduced performance.

Should timing chain parts be replaced together?

Yes. The chain, guides, rails and tensioner wear together, so replacing them as a set avoids repeating a labor-intensive job. Replace any single-use bolts and seals disturbed during the work.

What happens if a timing chain fails?

On many engines the valves and pistons share the same space, so a jumped or broken chain can cause severe internal engine damage. That is why early signs like cold-start rattle should be investigated promptly.

Can I replace timing chain components myself?

It requires engine-specific locking tools and precise timing procedures, and errors can damage the engine. It is best done by an experienced technician or a well-equipped enthusiast following the factory procedure.

How do I make sure this timing chain part fits my car?

Compare the part numbers listed on this page with the number on your old part or in your vehicle's parts catalog, and check the fitment information. If you are unsure, contact us with your VIN before ordering.
