About this Brake Pad Wear Sensor

The FEBI BILSTEIN 33414 brake pad wear sensor warns you, through a dashboard light, when your brake pads are nearly worn out. It sits in the pad and is designed to be worn through, so it usually needs replacing along with the pads.

Frequently asked questions

How does a brake pad wear sensor work?

A wire loop inside the sensor tip sits at the pad's minimum thickness. When the pad wears down, the rotor wears through the loop, breaking the circuit and turning on the warning light.

When do I need to replace the sensor?

Replace it whenever the warning has come on, because the worn loop cannot be reused, and whenever it is damaged during a pad change. Many owners replace it with every pad change.

Do both axles have a sensor?

Many European cars have one sensor on the front axle and one on the rear, usually on one wheel only. Check which axle this sensor is for in the product details and fitment information.

Can I replace the sensor myself?

Yes, it is usually done during a pad change: clip the sensor into the new pad, route the wire away from moving and hot parts, and connect it. The warning light may need a short drive, or on some cars a reset, to clear.

How do I make sure this brake pad wear sensor fits my car?

Compare the part numbers listed on this page with the number on your old part or in your vehicle's parts catalog, and check the fitment information. If you are unsure, contact us with your VIN before ordering.
