About this Valve Cover Gasket

The VICTOR REINZ 71-21644-30 valve cover gasket seals the cover on top of the engine's cylinder head, keeping oil in. Gaskets harden with heat over time, and a leaking valve cover gasket is one of the most common oil leaks on European engines.

What are the signs of a leaking valve cover gasket?

Oil seeping around the edge of the valve cover, a burning oil smell as oil drips onto the exhaust, smoke from the engine bay, or oil in the spark plug wells that can cause misfires.

What should I replace along with the gasket?

Replace the spark plug tube seals if your engine has them, the valve cover bolt grommets or seals, and any related gaskets included in a set. Check the crankcase ventilation valve, as excess crankcase pressure can push oil past new gaskets.
