An engine timing belt synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshafts for proper valve timing. Proper timing prevents the engine’s pistons from striking the valves, as well as correct intake and exhaust timing during combustion. The timing belt is toothed on the inside to connect with the engine’s camshaft pulleys, rollers and tensioners. Timing belts must be replaced after a recommended amount of distance, as they stretch and fatigue with use. Failure to replace the timing belt at manual recommended intervals (generally around 60,000 miles) can result in catastrophic engine failure. euromotiv is your source for genuine and aftermarket timing belts should you need to purchase a replacement.
