The oxygen sensor is a small, but vital unit that can suffer from contamination and internal heater failure over time. If it starts to go bad, you might notice poor gas mileage, a lack of power, rough idle, pinging in the motor and increased emissions. You might also receive a check engine light. If you get your vehicle emission checked, a faulty sensor might cause it to fail.

When replacing the sensor, always wait for it to cool and be sure to use some anti-seize to make your next job a bit easier.
