This inductive transmitter reads the RPM of the ring gear on the planetary gear set, and sends a corresponding signal to the transmission control module. The output speed, in conjunction with the input speed, are used to calculate and adjust upshifts, downshifts, torque converter lockup, and engine torque modulation.
