It transfers force between the sway bar and the suspension arm or strut. When the car leans in a corner, the bar resists the roll through the links, keeping the car flatter.

A knocking or rattling noise over bumps, especially at low speed on uneven roads, more body roll than usual, or a torn boot or visible play in the link's ball joints.

Replacing both sides on the same axle is recommended, since they wear at a similar rate and it keeps the handling balanced. Check the sway bar bushings at the same time.

On many cars the link's ball stud spins while tightening; hold it with a hex or Torx bit through the stud while you torque the nut. Tighten with the suspension loaded if your car's procedure requires it.
