About this Starter

The BOSCH SR0439X starter turns the engine over when you start the car. It draws a large current from the battery, and as its motor and solenoid wear it can become slow, noisy or fail to engage.

Frequently asked questions

What are the signs of a failing starter?

A click but no crank, slow or labored cranking, a grinding or whirring noise when starting, or starting that works only intermittently.

Could it be the battery instead?

Yes, a weak battery or corroded cables cause very similar symptoms. Test the battery and check the cable connections and ground before replacing the starter.

Does my car need a start-stop starter?

Cars with automatic start-stop use starters built for many more start cycles. Choose the starter listed for your exact car, especially if it has start-stop.

Can I replace a starter myself?

It depends on the car; some starters are easy to reach and others sit under the intake manifold. Always disconnect the battery first, since the starter cable is live even with the ignition off.

How do I make sure this starter fits my car?

Compare the part numbers listed on this page with the number on your old part or in your vehicle's parts catalog, and check the fitment information. If you are unsure, contact us with your VIN before ordering.
