As a part of your suspension that takes a lot of abuse, a good set of shock absorbers will dictate the handling and ride of your car. In conjunction with coil springs, the shock absorber exists to dampen the bouncing motion of the coil spring. When a shock absorber fails, it will show signs of leakage in most cases, signalling that the gas/hydraulic interior seals have broken. To tell if your car needs shocks, walk to each corner and give it a strong push downward. The movement should not bounce up and down. If it bounces more than twice, the shock absorber is no longer dampening the movement of the spring. Typically, shocks last around 100k miles, but in some cases they can last far longer.

About these Shocks & Struts

The GENUINE PORSCHE 96433305105 shock absorber or strut controls how the springs compress and rebound, keeping the tires in contact with the road. Worn dampers make a car bounce, dive under braking and lose grip, even when the springs are fine.

Frequently asked questions

What are the signs of worn shocks or struts?

Continued bouncing after a bump, nose dive under braking, body roll in corners, oil leaking from the body of the shock, clunks over bumps, or uneven, cupped tire wear.

Should shocks and struts be replaced in pairs?

Yes, always replace them in pairs on the same axle so both sides damp the same way. Replacing only one side can make the car unstable.

What should I replace along with them?

Inspect and usually replace the top mounts, bump stops and dust boots at the same time; worn mounts cause noise and new dampers can be damaged by torn boots. Check the springs for cracks or sagging.

Can I install struts myself?

A strut combines the damper and spring, so disassembly requires compressing the spring with a proper spring compressor. That is dangerous without the right tools. After fitting struts, have an alignment done.

How do I make sure this shock absorber fits my car?

Compare the part numbers listed on this page with the number on your old part or in your vehicle's parts catalog, and check the fitment information. If you are unsure, contact us with your VIN before ordering.
