When you release your parking brake, does the BRAKE light remain lit in the instrument cluster? When this parking brake damper begins to wear out, it doesn't return the pedal all the way to its correct resting position. The result is that the sensor thinks the brake is still on, leaving the light illuminated in your dash. A new damper will return your parking brake pedal to the "up" position, without any help from your foot.
