Most power steering systems are a series of hoses and pumps that uses hydraulic fluid to assist and “power” the steering rack, which turns the wheels. The complicated series of hydraulic hoses and fittings are submitted to both constant chemical contact as well as repeated heat cycling. Cracks in the hose unions are common areas for leaks, as well as fitting leakages from corrosion. If your hoses are aged and leaking, they should be replaced, and the system should get new fluid.
