Driver side fitting. From boot between plenum housing and air mass sensor Engine Crankcase Breather hoses are part of a vehicle’s Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system. The job of the PCV system is to allow pressure to escape from the crankcase in a controlled manner. It is necessary to vent the crankcase of positive pressure caused by engine blow-by (gas from the combustion event that leaks past the pistons.) This blow-by gas is routed back into the intake air stream thereby reducing the emission of unburned hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. Damaged crankcase breather hoses are a common source of engine vacuum leaks and often a source of check engine lights in modern vehicles.

About this Crankcase Ventilation (PCV)

The GENUINE PORSCHE 92810731302 is part of the crankcase ventilation (PCV) system, which routes gases that escape past the pistons back into the intake to be burned, and separates oil out of them. When the system fails, crankcase pressure and oil consumption can rise quickly.

Frequently asked questions

What does the crankcase ventilation system do?

It relieves pressure inside the engine by drawing blow-by gases back into the intake, while an oil separator or valve keeps oil out of the intake. Correct crankcase pressure protects seals and gaskets.

What are the signs of a failed PCV valve or oil separator?

A whistling or howling noise at idle, rough idle, lean-running fault codes, higher oil consumption, oil leaks from seals, blue smoke, or suction at the oil filler cap strong enough to hold the cap down.

What should I replace along with it?

Crankcase vent hoses become brittle with heat and age, so inspect and replace cracked hoses and fittings at the same time. On many European engines, the valve cover and separator are serviced together.

Can I replace PCV components myself?

Many parts are accessible with basic tools, though some separators sit under the intake manifold. Handle old plastic fittings carefully, as they can break during removal.

How do I make sure this crankcase ventilation part fits my car?

Compare the part numbers listed on this page with the number on your old part or in your vehicle's parts catalog, and check the fitment information. If you are unsure, contact us with your VIN before ordering.
