An often overlooked cause for headlight problems is the mounting base. A base that has cracked or warped can cause the wiring harness to lose good contact with the headlight assembly, often causing intermittent failure of the lights on that side of the vehicle. This is also the piece that you need if your headlight assembly will no longer lock into place during installation, as it contains the headlight retention mechanism.
