Depending on application, exhaust pipe flange gaskets are most often flat and ridged, made of metalized cardboard or crushable metal. Exhaust pipe flange gaskets are a common point of failure in the exhaust system and should be inspected when the tone or volume of the exhaust changes. Because these parts are common failure points and often designed as one time crush-to-seal parts, it is a good idea to replace these seals when an exhaust component is being repaired or replaced.
