The rubber intake tubes in your vehicle often can crack or break. The the rubber splits, allowing excess air or contaminants into your intake. If these breaks occur after the MAF sensor, your engine can run extremely poorly as the vehicle is not getting the fuel curve that it needs. Breaks before your MAF can cause excessively heated air to be pulled from your underhood, defeating the engineered purpose.
