Flywheels bolt to the crankshaft and transmit engine power to the transmission through the clutch assembly. They store energy and dampen crankshaft power pulses. The flywheel contact surface should be carefully inspected during a clutch overhaul. Signs of wear include, scoring and heat cracking. Replace as needed, based on manufacturer recommendations.
