The BOSCH QUIETCAST BP1129 brake pads are the friction material that presses against the brake rotors to stop the car. Pad compound affects stopping power, pedal feel, noise and brake dust, and pads are always replaced as a set for both wheels on an axle.

What are the signs that my brake pads are worn?

A brake-pad warning light, a squeal or grinding noise when braking, longer stopping distances, or less than about 3 mm of pad material visible through the wheel. Grinding usually means the backing plate is touching the rotor and needs immediate attention.

Do I need new rotors with new pads?

Check the rotors' thickness against the minimum stamped on them and look for grooves or vibration. Rotors that are worn, scored or below minimum thickness should be replaced with the pads so the new pads bed in on a fresh surface.

Do I need a new pad wear sensor?

On many European cars, yes. The sensor is designed to be worn through by the pad; once the warning has come on, or if the sensor was damaged during removal, it has to be replaced.

How do I break in new brake pads?

Follow the pad maker's bedding procedure, usually several moderate stops from speed without coming to a complete stop, then letting the brakes cool. Avoid hard stops for the first few hundred miles.
